The World Health Organization (WHO)'s 2021 Model Lists of Essential Medicines feature key updates to the TB section including the addition of moxifloxacin and rifapentine for the indication of drug susceptible TB, child friendly formulations of bedaquiline and delamanid to treat drug-resistant TB and a higher dose formulation of rifapentine for TB preventive treatment. Further updates include the addition of other TB medicines to the list as well as the removal of some TB medicines that are no longer considered essential.

Treatment Action Group (TAG) released a patent landscape investigating potential patent barriers for the development and delivery of long-acting formulations for selected hepatitis C and TB medicines. The report was presented during a webinar 'Same Meds, New Patents: What Do Activists Need to Know About Long-Acting Technologies', co-hosted by TAG and the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition. A panel of treatment activists shared different countries' perspectives on how activists can fight back against restrictive patents on long-acting technologies. A new study, published in The Lancet Global Health, found that the consequences of post-TB adds substantially to the disease burden caused by TB. Future policy analyses and burden estimates need to take better account of post-TB, to avoid the potential misallocation of funding, political attention, and research effort resulting from continued neglect of this issue.

A study published on the preprint server bioRxiv revealed that mice infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis are resistant to SARS-CoV-2 infection. This resistance is induced by expansion of T- and B-cell subsets in the lungs upon secondary viral challenge.
