놀랍게도 한경의 신춘문예에 다제내성 폐결핵 걸린 작가의 자전적 경험을 녹여낸 ‘방학’이라는 작품이 소설부분 당선작으로 선정되었습니다.
작가의 인터뷰에 의하면 폐결핵에 걸려 10년 동안 약이 하나도 안 들어 정말 죽음을 앞두고 있다가, 소설처럼 신약 임상시험에 참가하여 살아나게 되었다고 하는데, delamanid를 복약한 것 같아 제 어깨가 으쓱했습니다. 먼저 역경을 딛고 신춘문예에 당선되신 최설 소설가에게 축하 드리며, 다른 환자에게도 힘이 될 것 같아 소개해 보았습니다.

The Global Laboratory Initiative, with its secretariat at the World Health Organization Global TB Program, released a Planning and budgeting tool for TB and drug-resistant TB testing facilitating systematic calculation of the quantities and costs of products for countries planning to order diagnostic products and laboratory supplies from the Global Drug Facility Catalog.

The Stop TB Partnership announced the theme for this year’s World TB Day: Invest to End TB. Save Lives World leaders have only limited time until December 2022 to keep the promises made to their citizens and nations at the 2018 UN High-Level Meeting on TB. World TB Day is observed every year on 24 March to build public awareness about the global TB epidemic and efforts to eliminate the disease.

PEPFAR Watch brings together activists ahead of the Country Operational Plan planning process to develop priority recommendations and community demands for the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). TB Alliance announced that it has received funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to jumpstart the search for new TB treatments, optimize current treatments, and strengthen health systems in high TB burden countries. The funding of up to US$30 million will be administered over a period of 5 years. here.

The Indian Ministry of Health in its revised Clinical Guidance for Management of Adult COVID-19 Patients added active TB as a high-risk factor that can potentially cause severe disease and even mortality in COVID-19 patients. In response to the increase in rates of COVID-19 infection, the 6th Global Forum on TB Vaccines will be convened as a fully virtual event. To facilitate participation, it will now take place over four days on 22-25 February 2022. Applications for registration support are being accepted through 31 January 2022.

Delamanid is referred to in this opinion piece, in which it’s argued India is using TB diagnostic tools that too often are out-dated and ineffective. Delamanid is referred to in the context of new drugs available to treat TB. India is said to account for one third of global TB deaths.

According to results of a cluster-randomized study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, a multicomponent diagnostic strategy was found to increase the number of patients being tested, diagnosed, and treated for confirmed TB infection.

Researchers reported that overseas culture-based TB screening in U.S.-bound immigrants and refugees substantially reduced the importation of multidrug-resistant TB into the U.S.
