WHO에서 결핵 연구자 선생님들께 연구에 필요한 TB 임상 시험 및 Operational research 연구에 대한 최신 정보를 모아 TB research tracker를 런칭하였습니다. WHO Global TB Program에서 런칭한 플랫폼으로 결핵 예방, 치료 및 care를 개선하기 위해 고안된 Operational research project만 아니라 새로운 치료 regimens 및 백신 개발의 진행 상황을 추적하여 연구자에게 도움을 주기 위해 개발되었습니다. 아래 table을 활용하여 적응증별, 지역별, 주제별 등 임상 시험 및 기타 연구에 대한 최신 정보에 액세스할 수 있습니다. MDR-END 연구를 찾아본 결과를 예시로 첨부해 봅니다. 많은 활용 부탁드립니다.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) signed a new and revised Strategic Framework for Collaboration, designed to build stronger and more resilient health systems and maximize collaboration and impact in support of country, regional and global responses to major communicable diseases, including TB.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Global TB Program launched a new online platform to track progress in the development of new treatment regimens, vaccines as well as operational research projects designed to improve TB prevention, treatment, and care. The TB research tracker will serve as a single access point consolidating the latest information on TB clinical trials and operational research studies. The TB research tracker can be accessed here.

The United Nations (UN) General Assembly will hold the second High-Level Meeting on TB on 22 September 2023. The application process for special accreditation to attend the meeting is now open. Ongoing efforts to end TB were in the spotlight at the 76th World Health Assembly, held 21-30 May 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Stop TB Partnership launched the ‘Key Asks from TB Stakeholders for the UN High-Level Meeting on TB’ ahead of the UN Multi-stakeholder Hearing on TB, held on 8 May 2023. The Key Asks outline the top priorities the TB community is requesting member states to include in the Political Declaration which is expected to be endorsed by Heads of State during the UN High-Level Meeting on TB in September. The Key Asks are now available in French, Spanish, Russian and Portuguese and can be downloaded here .

The University of Leicester forms part of a 19-strong consortium known as TBVAC-HORIZON which has been awarded €9 million under Horizon Europe to boost research and development into TB, specifically by looking at lung immunity and the ways in which the infection is able to evade the immune response.

The World Health Organization warned that TB deaths in the European region increased in 2021 compared with 2020, and this is the first time in 20 years TB cases have been on the rise, prompting concerns about the feasibility of a goal to end the disease by 2035. Across Europe, researchers are exploring new ways to tackle the disease.

An article published in Spotlight elaborates on a series of related trials in South Africa, called XACT, exploring community-based TB testing using battery-operated molecular tests.

On 15 June 2023, TB Europe Coalition (TBEC) organized a webinar presenting on the practical actions advocates can take to promote the adoption and scale up of shorter, safer 1/4/6 regimens for TB prevention and the treatment of drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB as well as supportive diagnostics. People in South Africa who fall ill with TB often also have other health issues, including liver problems. The scale of the issue is likely to be substantial, although no particularly good data on liver problems in South Africa are available, and even less so on people experiencing TB and liver problems together. German researchers are seeking approval to conduct clinical trials in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a breath analyzer that is said to be able to detect TB in minutes, taking advantage of the large variety of nationalities living in the Emirates. Source: The National

Vitamin D deficiency is more common in children with TB than those not infected by the bacterial disease, according to a study published in Cureus. It also found that a severe form of vitamin D deficiency -- less than 10 nanogrammes per millilitre -- was higher among children with TB. Source: The Indian Express

Campaigns in Global Health released a report, Ready Next Time, mapping the intersection between efforts to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness and response systems and efforts to end TB. It sets out how policymakers and funders can deliver impact across both agendas, saving lives today and tomorrow and helping to make the case for sustained investment in public health. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) welcomed the passage of a resolution at the 76th annual United Nations World Health Assembly to strengthen countries’ diagnostic testing capacity. With almost half of the global population having little or no access to disease testing, this resolution is an essential step towards improving global access to diagnostic tools. Increasing access to testing for a variety of diseases, including TB, is critical as it is necessary in order to put people on the best medical treatments possible.

The University of California at San Francisco and Berkeley Tuberculosis Research Advancement Center (UC TRAC) is launching a Tuberculosis Community Advisory Board (UC TB-CAB) in August 2023. UC TRAC is calling for applications from diverse individuals based in Uganda, Vietnam, and the San Francisco Bay Area to join its group of strong, research-literate community activists from TB-affected communities and networks in Africa, Asia, and North America. Qiagen announced the publication of a meta-analysis comparing interferon-gamma production between TB1 and TB2 tubes of QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus.

A second daily dose of dolutegravir for people with HIV taking standard TB treatment seems to be unnecessary, a South African randomized study has reported in The Lancet HIV.

Patients who use inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have higher rates of TB and pneumonia than those who do not use ICS, according to a study published in the International Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
