The G20 includes many countries with a high burden of TB and is uniquely positioned to lead TB vaccine development and delivery through joint, sustained, and scaled-up investments. A policy brief outlines recommendations for G20 members to act together to accelerate TB vaccine development. At least one new TB vaccine must be licensed and approved by 2025 to meet the World Health Organization’s goal of ending TB by 2030.

Before SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, spread across the world in 2020, TB was responsible for more deaths globally than any other infectious disease. During the pandemic, it at first appeared that, as with many other common illnesses like the flu, COVID-19 prevention efforts reduced TB cases, too. But TB numbers have quickly climbed back up to pre-pandemic levels, marking the first time in decades that cases and deaths have risen globally. Source: The Conversation

No other disease in South Africa kills as many people as TB. To change this, the health department has a new plan for curbing TB infections. With the new guidelines, everyone who has had 'significant exposure' to TB can now get TB preventive medicines, regardless of HIV status or age, and there are four different treatment options.
