2023년 7월에 발표된 세계보건기구(WHO)의 2023년 필수 의약품 모델 목록에는 결핵(TB) 섹션에 대한 주요 업데이트가 포함되어 있습니다. 이는 다제/리팜피신 내성 결핵(MDR/RR-TB)의 단기 치료에 대한 현재 WHO 권장 사항과 어린이 및 청소년의 약물 감수성 결핵을 치료하기 위한 새로운 옵션을 보완합니다. The World Health Organization released a rapid communication announcing upcoming updates to the guidance on the use of targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) for diagnosis of drug-resistant TB (DR-TB). Targeted NGS for the detection of DR-TB is a new class of diagnostic technology, providing an option for rapid and accurate genetic analysis and detection of mutations associated with resistance in a fraction of the time required for culture-based methods for detecting resistance.

The World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) 2023 Model Lists of Essential Medicines(EML), published in July 2023, features key updates to the TB section. These complement current WHO recommendations for shorter treatment of multidrug-/rifampicin-resistant TB (MDR/RR-TB) and newer options to treat drug-susceptible TB in children and adolescents. WHO’s Global TB Program, with inputs from partners, proposed these changes to the EML based on the latest WHO recommendations and the current availability of TB medicines.

Pretomanid’s Addition to the WHO’s Essential Medicine List Enhances Access to All Oral, Six-Month DR-TB Therapy.

RESULTS UK released a new advocacy report, , Accountability to end TB: A global responsibility. It makes the case for accountability within the global TB response, highlighting the lack of progress against the 2018 global commitments and the role of accountability within these commitments.

Treatment Action Group (TAG) released a toolkit, designed to facilitate community participation in the development and review of clinical trials protocols. It was developed in consultation with members of two existing Community Advisory Boards (CABs) — the Global TB CAB and the Community Research Advisors Group (CRAG). The Project to Accelerate New Treatments for Tuberculosis (PAN-TB) collaboration announced the start of a phase 2b/c clinical trial, sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute. The trial will evaluate whether novel regimens that combine registered products and new chemical entities have the potential to effectively treat drug-sensitive TB and inform the development of a 'pan-TB' regimen capable of treating all forms of active pulmonary TB. Asthma and respiratory symptoms in pediatric patients may be rooted in the occurrence of TB in their parents, according to a study published in Frontiers in Allergy, with investigators postulating that the infection’s immunological impact may be to blame for the specific asthma phenotype.

In a study, published in Scientific Reports, researchers examined immune responses in treatment-naive individuals with early-stage active pulmonary TB without clinical TB history, identifying a potential immune biomarker associated with pulmonary TB in active patients compared to controls.

In a study, published in the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, researchers documented that four patients were cured of multidrug-resistant TB with a six-month regimen that included bedaquiline, pretomanid and linezolid (BPaL).

A study, published in The Lancet Global Health, quantified the substantial impact of diet on the successful treatment and containment of TB in India. Among family members living with a person with active pulmonary TB, improving nutrition resulted in a 40 to 50% reduction in new TB cases. Overall, nutritional support in patients reduced TB mortality by 35%.

By using a computer model to understand Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb)'s adaptations, researchers have identified a network within Mtb that allows it to tolerate and resist drug therapies.
