released
two new guidance documents to assist national TB programs and other stakeholders in adopting and implementing next generation sequencing for the detection of drug-resistant TB.

The Stop TB Partnership’s TB REACH initiative launched its Wave 11 round of funding focused on innovative and people-centered approaches for integrated services for TB and other diseases at the primary and community levels of health systems. report
offering case studies of two critical TB tools, GeneXpert and delamanid, and outlining actions that the corporations making them, Cepheid/Danaher and Otsuka, respectively, need to take to unlock access to these revolutionary, lifesaving medical tools.

in Nature Communications, uncovered that elevated glycerol levels are responsible for increased severity of TB disease in experimental models with type 2 diabetes.

in The Journal of Infectious Diseases, scientists reported a promising new approach, the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine human challenge model, to speed vaccine testing for TB.

A
study,
published in Nature Communications, showed how Mycobacterium tuberculosis perturbs homeostasis of the high-energy molecule NADH and reprograms glycolysis in myeloid cells. This highlights glycolysis as a potential therapeutic target to combat TB.

A promising new cancer therapy also appears extremely potent against TB. Scientists found the therapy dramatically reduces TB growth, even for bacteria that are drug-resistant. The findings,
reported
in Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, were made in novel cellular models featuring TB-infected human cells that can help accelerate screening of potential TB drugs and therapies like this one.
